Year 1

Welcome to Year One!

Half Termly Topics:

Our Topic for Autumn Term 1 was 'Toys’. We had lots of exciting opportunities planned! We looked at our favourite toys, the history and geography of toys, made split pin toys and painted toys.

Our topic for Autumn Term 2 was 'Food Glorious Food'. We launched our topic with some delicious food tasting! This half term we focused on lots of stories based around food, writing instructions and recipes, and cooking a variety of foods. We also learnt about where food comes from and we learnt the seven continents. The children learnt about bodies and how to be healthy and in French we learnt how to say some foods. The children also learnt addition and subtraction in Maths.

Year One's topic for Spring 1 was 'Iceberg ahead' where the children have completed some amazing learning at home! We have been so proud of how the children have been so enthusiastic with this topic and we have loved seeing them do some fantastic learning about the Titanic. The children have done some brilliant sketching, designing and making of boats and we have loved seeing them dance as if they were on the Titanic. We also loved receiving pictures of the children in their Titanic costumes! The children have also learnt about parts of a ship and have produced some great writing using adjectives to describe the ship. They have also written about the clothes of the Titanic passengers, a fantastic recount, some super facts about the Captain and we are currently enjoying reading lots of thier booklets about the oceans.

Our Spring 2 topic is 'Castles and Knights' and we have lots of exciting opportunities planned! We will launch our topic with a 'Guess whose castle' game and we will explore what a castle is and who lives in them. In this topic we will also look at some children's stories that include castles such as Jack and the Beanstalk. We will be learning about the different roles of people in a castle and we will explore the life of Queen Victoria. The children will also be designing and making their own castles and shields and we are also very excited to take part in our very own knights quest!
