From Autumn Term 2015 Lightwater Village School will be using The Early Excellence Baseline approach to on-entry assessment. It does not include any predetermined tasks or tests and will not disrupt settling in routines. Instead, as part of their everyday practice, the Early Years teachers will build their knowledge of each child through their observations, interactions and every day activities. They use this knowledge to make a series of judgments about each child based on a clear set of assessment criteria.

The Assessment data is completed online and automatically produces the data needed by the DfE. Once schools’ assessments are complete and have been submitted, data is produced by Early Excellence for the DfE and for the school, using the scores. The school’s baseline scores can then be analysed and reported providing a picture of the cohort as a whole, pf different groups of children as well as of individual children. This data is utilised by schools to support tracking and monitoring of childrens’ learning.

The baseline assessment must be completed within the first 6 weeks of a child joining Lightwater Village School. In order to ensure that children are assessed at the optimum time within these 6 weeks, practitioners adopt a simple ‘screening’ process.  The Early Excellence Reception Baseline is accredited by the DfE for use on entry to YR. It establishes a starting point from which progress into KS1 can be measured and for which schools can be held accountable.
