Science Fair winners visit University of Surrey

Pupils across Lightwater Village School and Hammond Junior School have been getting investigative and embracing Science over the past month.

During the February half term pupils were tasked to design, complete and present a scientific experiment of their choice. The projects were presented at Science Fairs across both schools to which parents were invited to view the amazing display. The school halls were full to the brim with presentations on experiments from sugar in foods to animal behaviour, speed of cars to building structures, and the effects of exercise to chromatography.

One overall winner and nine runners up were chosen at both schools, and these pupils were invited to the University of Surrey on Wednesday 1st March to compete to become the GLF Scientist of the Year. During the day the pupils were shown the University's science department and laboratories and enjoyed seeing all the other experiments.

Karen Ney, Deputy Headteacher, commented 'All pupils did a fantastic job with their experiments and we were thrilled with how well they engaged with this project. The quality of their work was to an exceptional standard, and it has really brought Science to life for many. While none of our pupils went on to win at the University of Surrey we were so pleased with how they represented the schools and many commented on their work and enthusiasm".
