A Winning Poppy Remembrance

In October the federation of Lightwater schools was approached to take part in a Giant Poppy Wreath competition to mark Remembrance Day. The competition was held in conjunction with The Atrium shopping centre in Camberley and a variety of local groups including schools and guiding units took up the challenge to create a beautiful poppy wreath display for the shopping centre.

At Lightwater Village School each child made a small poppy in a different material - some card, some egg boxes, some tissue, some glittery, some felt, etc and once combined the wreath was placed on display for a two week period in the lead up to Remembrance Sunday on 12th November. At Hammond School the wreath was made up of different hand prints to shape into one giant poppy in the spirit of 'Hands together - We will remember them'.

Members of the public were invited to vote for their favourite wreath, both by paper ballot and on Facebook, and we are pleased to say that the Lightwater Village School wreath won!

The school now has £100 of The Works vouchers to spend on art supplies which are very much appreciated, but above all we are thrilled to have taken part in such a special competition to commemorate an important act of remembrance.
