A fantastic Science Week

Week commencing 22nd January was Science Week across the federation of Lightwater schools and wow, we’ve had fun!!

At Lightwater Village School the children enjoyed welcoming Kerry Henderson, a STEM Ambassador, into school and gaining an insight into geology and volcanoes - the children were in awe!

On Wednesday afternoon it was our Science Family Learning event. Six areas of the school hosted different experiments including forces, plants, electricity, chemical reactions and the human body, and parents and children were able to get hands on with the different displays and experiments on offer.

On Thursday afternoon it was our Science Fair. The children had worked on their own Science experiments at home, answering questions such as 'why do I wear football boots?', 'which fruit generates the most electricity?' and 'what's the fastest way to travel 50 metres?'.  So many amazing displays and exhibits—it was great to see how enthusiastic the children were about the experiments they had done at home and showing their parents and carers their work and those of their friends, or ones which simply caught their imagination. The finalists of the Science Fair were:

Sycamore: Tyler & Finn Holly: Matthew & Emily Oak: Samuel & Noah Pine: Finley & Evie Willow: Holly & Sam Beech: Megan & Chloe

And a big well done to the overall winner—Samuel!

These lucky children will attend the GLF Schools Science Fair on Wednesday 7th February at the University of Surrey where they will enjoy a range of Science activities and stand a chance of being the GLF Schools Science Champion. Good luck to our entrants!
