Transition is an important part of school life, from the very beginnings with visits from pre-school children to our Foundation Stage Unit, to whole school activities between Year 2 and Year 5 students in preparation for Junior/Key Stage 2 transfer.

As part of our pastoral care we identify children who may require a little extra support in their transition to Junior education.  We arrange for staff from Hammond to join the small group and an extra visit to the Hammond campus is made possible.  This is alongside teacher swaps in the Summer Term for the whole Year Group, when our Year 2 teachers visit their classes from the previous academic year, whilst Year 3 teachers visit Lightwater Village School to teach their new students in an environment that is familiar to the children.  During the Summer Term, Year 2 pupils meet with Year 5 students from Hammond Community Junior School.  They meet during the lunchtime period undertaking sporting events together which provides an enjoyable activity and also aids a smooth transition into their new school.
