New Intake 2020

8th July:

2nd Admission Packs

Your second admissions pack will be with you next week. It will inform you of your child's class for September, along with specific details of our induction arrangements for the first few weeks in school - we apologise for the slight delay in sending these out to you, but have had to make some amendments to our original plans/timings in line with Goverment announcements.

Induction arrangements

Please note that there will now be an additional Inset day at the beginning of term. This means that the first day of school will be on Thursday 3rd September, not Wednesday 2nd as previously advised.

Children will initially be split into 4 groups: Holly Class Group A, Holly Class Group B, Sycamore Class Group A and Sycamore Class Group B.

On Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th September each group will be invited into school at different times throughout the day to spend a 1 hour 20 minute session in their classroom.

On Monday 7th September children will attend either a morning or afternoon session in school depending on which group they are in (just under 3 hours each).

From Tuesday 8th - Friday 11th September all children will attend full morning sessions together, have lunch in school and will need to be collected at 12.45pm.

From Monday 14th September children should attend full time, unless you indicated on your admission forms a preference for part time hours.

1st July:

Early Years Presentation

As we have been unable to invite parents into school for an information evening this year Miss Smith has put together the following presentation to give you a greater insight into the Early Years unit and to provide some key information. Please click on the link to watch the video as it is extremely informative:

30th June:

'All About Me' Booklet and Home Learning Project

The Early Years staff are keen to find out more about the children who will be joining us in September and have therefore put together an 'all About Me' booklet and little home learning project for you to complete over the Summer break with your child. You can find a link to both of these here, but will also receive a hard copy of them with your second admissions pack:

30th June:

Meet the Early Years Team

Over the next couple of weeks you will receive a letter in the post informing you which class your child will be joining in September, along with detaills our transition/settling in plans for the first couple of weeks in school. In the meantime, why not find out more about our Early Years team by clicking this link:

30th June:

School Lunches

All children attending LVS are entitled to receive a free hot school lunch. At the beginning of each day teaching staff will ask the children to choose from one of two lunch options. It is vitally important that you inform the school of any allergies your child may have.

If your child would prefer to bring in a packed lunch from home can we please request that you refrain from providing chocolate snacks and remember that we are a NUT FREE school, so packed lunches must NOT include any products containing nuts as we have several children in school with life threatening allergies.

Further information about lunchtimes can be found in this leaflet:

For a copy of the school lunch menu for the Autumn/Spring terms, please click the following link. There will be some occasions when the menu is altered slightly, but it will generally be similar to what is listed. Please note that we have our roast dinner on a Thursday, NOT a Wednesday here at LVS.

29th June:

Preparing your Child for School

The period before a child starts school for the first time can be an anxious time for parents. We have put together the following information as a simple guide to how you can best prepare your child for this exciting time in their lives! Please do not worry as this is not an expectation, but more a guide as to best help your children:

1st June:

Cool Milk

Children under 5 can be registered to receive a portion of milk each day free of charge from our milk supplier, Cool Milk. From their 5th birthday, children can continue to receive a carton of milk at a subsidised cost. Should you wish your child to receive this milk, you will need to register your details directly with Cool Milk through their website:

If you do decide to register your child, please do so after you have received your second admissions pack from us as, by that time you will know your child's starting date and class name.

1st June:

Admission Forms - Reminder

Please ensure that your completed admissions forms are returned to the School Office by this Friday 5th June

10th May:

Welcome to our September 2020 Reception intake!

We are delighted that you have accepted the offer of your child's place at Lightwater Village School, commencing September 2020 and would like to extend a warm welcome to you to our school family.

Now that you have confirmed your acceptance of your child's place and provided contact details for their nursery provision our Reception Leader, Miss Smith, will start contacting pre-school settings, as we do for all new intakes, to find out where your child is in their learning. We know that our Reception learning plans will need to be adapted this year to recap pre-school learning, so that any learning missed due to the school closures is addressed.

From 13th May and over the following few days you will receive an admissions pack, hand delivered by LVS staff, with various forms to complete and return to School. We require this registration paperwork to be returned by Friday 5th June at the latest please.

Timelines, reminders and general Information about starting school will be uploaded regularly here on our website from 13th May onwards. General information such as calendar events, holiday, uniform and general news can be found under the relevant tabs on the rest of the website.

We find ourselves in an unprecedented set of circumstances and anticipate the possible anxiety your family may currently feel about your child's transition into Reception. Consequently we are taking this opportunity to assure you that an induction process of some kind will take place; however, currently you will understand that we cannot be specific about how and when. Schools are working within a constantly changing environment, with different versions of guidance coming from the Department for Education (DfE) on a daily basis. We therefore ask for your patience whilst we put together plans which are practical, flexible and above all mutually beneficial in supporting the best possible start to your child's school life.

We would usually have meetings with you to share information and hear from you, but there will be other ways that we can do this so that we make sure we all receive the information we need.

Every single child in the country who will start Reception in the autumn term will be in the same position as yours. Our promise to you is that we will continue to work in partnership, wherever possible, to ensure your child's start to school is both as exciting and positive as we can collectively make it.
