Change to Transition Day Arrangements

Thursday 17th June:

Following Boris Johnson’s announcement earlier this week to delay the final stage of lockdown easing, alongside further guidance from the Department for Education and the GLF Trust of which we are a part of, we have had to take the regrettable decision (along with many other schools) to cancel our planned Transition Day on Wednesday 30th June. We understand that this will be a huge disappointment and may cause some anxiety, but please be reassured that the decision has not been taken lightly and that we will still ensure that your child receives a smooth transition into school with us in September, by tweaking some of the arrangements for the first couple of sessions they attend. There are a few pupils who have been identified as needing additional transition arrangements for a variety of reasons. We will be working with relevant staff teams to facilitate as much of this as we can in a Covid-safe way and will communicate these plans with those parents as and when they are in place.

As well as the Trust-wide advice to move to a virtual option for transition, we also took into account a number of locally-based concerns relevant to our school when making the difficult decision to cancel the Transition Day. These being, the rise in infection rates across Surrey, the fact that a number of staff members live in the mass testing areas of concern around the delta-variant, a number of staff and parents are still to receive their second vaccines and we also have a number of CEV pupils and staff.

These factors, coupled with the fact that for our transition to be successful we have to host and mix in adults and children from a number of different nursery settings, makes an in-school option completely unviable.

Outside options have been explored but again, with the need to mix in children from other settings to make up our new classes across the school next year and with adults from other schools in some of our new classes, it would not comply with current Covid guidance around the mixing of bubbles.

We would, however, like to offer you and your child the opportunity to still meet their new teacher virtually on 30th June and will be organising a ‘Meet the Teacher’ Zoom call for both Reception classes at 4.15pm that day. Full details/meeting codes will be posted here prior to the event, so please keep checking the link for additional information. The Zoom calls will be recorded (staff member only visible) and then posted on the website for those who are unable to join the session.

Your second admission pack, which will inform you of your child’s class for September, along with full details of the Induction schedule for September, will be available to collect from the school office between 9-3pm next Thursday 24th June. Any packs not collected from the school that day will be either hand delivered on Friday 25th/over the weekend or posted out to you.

Many thanks for your understanding.

Welcome to our September 2021 Reception intake!

We are delighted that you have accepted the offer of your child's place at Lightwater Village School, commencing September 2021 and would like to extend a warm welcome to you to our school family.

Now that you have confirmed your acceptance of your child's place our Reception Leader, Miss Smith, will start contacting pre-school settings, as we do for all new intakes, to find out where your child is in their learning.

In early May you will receive an admissions pack, hand delivered by LVS staff, with various forms to complete and return to School. We require this registration paperwork to be returned by Friday 28th May at the latest please.

Timelines, reminders and general Information about starting school will be uploaded regularly here on our website from early June onwards. General information such as calendar events, holiday, uniform and general news can be found under the relevant tabs on the rest of the website.
