Lunchtime

When you have lunch at Lightwater Village School you can choose to have a school lunch or bring your own packed lunch.  If you are having a school lunch, you will  choose your meal in the morning with the help of an adult in your classroom. Early Years have their lunch around midday but some classes have time to play in the playground and then have their lunch afterwards.  Before you have your lunch you will go to the toilet and wash your hands.  You will then collect your coloured sticker—the colour of the sticker tells the cooks which meal you have selected from the menu.

When you line up to go into the hall your teachers will help you to get a tray, and the cooks will serve your meal. Remember to say “thank you”. You can also help yourself to a selection from the salad bar. When you have your lunch and cutlery the Midday Supervisors will then help you find somewhere to sit.

Once you are seated you will be given a drink of water.   The Midday Supervisors will cut your food if you are finding this difficult.  We will not make you eat food you do not like but we do like you to try a little.

When you have finished your first course you should wait for a Midday Supervisor to tell you to begin your dessert—put your hand up to get their attention.  When you have finished eating they will also tell you when you can leave the table.  You will need to take your tray to the tray collection point and a member of staff will help you empty your leftovers into a food waste bin and take your empty tray and cutlery to be washed.

If you are having a packed lunch, the Midday Supervisors will help you find a place to sit too.  If you need help opening packets or your drink, they will also help you to do this.  Just remember to put your hand up to get an adult’s attention.

If you have a packed lunch you should also ask a Midday Supervisor if you may leave the table.

When you leave the hall you need to get your coat and go into the playground to play with friends.  The Midday Supervisors will look after you if you are hurt or have no-one to play with.  If there are any problems please do not worry—just speak to an adult.

Our Midday Supervisors are:-

Mrs Taylor, Mrs Gillibrand, Ms  Lipscombe, Ms Pilgrim and Miss Hailstone

Currently all EYFS and KS1 children are entitled to a Universal Free School Meal.

Please share the above information with your child to settle any worries that they may have about the lunchtime period.
