Headteacher Welcome
Welcome to Lightwater Village School
It is my very great pleasure to introduce myself as the Headteacher of Lightwater Village School. Our Infant School has been a feature of the local community since the 1930s and our Junior School has been part of the Lightwater community since the 1970s. Today, with the addition of our Nursery we are delighted to be able to offer a through provision from 2-11 years.
Lightwater Village School is a ‘village’ school in every respect. Staff are supportive, kind, and welcoming, You will find that Lightwater Village School is a place you will feel your child is seen, understood and cared for throughout their journey with us. This is a school where you will get to know all the staff and feel part of the community from your first step inside the building. We are lucky enough to have a supportive and committed Parents’ and Teacher Association who offer several exciting and fun community events throughout the year. Please pop along to an event to get a flavour of the school in full flow! Events can be found here.
We work in partnership to offer a primary school experience which enables the two schools to work together to share a clear and coherent vision for school improvement. Our leadership team works across both schools. The SEND and Mental Health team also work across both schools to ensure the very best transition for all pupils. This team approach ensures that your child receives the very best in Infant and Junior practice, as well as a strong transition offer so that they do not find the move between Infants and Juniors challenging. We are ably supported by talented and passionate staff and a supportive School Strategy Board.
At Lightwater Village School, it is our vision to join you in partnership to develop well-rounded, confident, and responsible individuals who aspire to achieve their full potential. We set high expectations for staff as well as children. We want every member of our school community to be the best version of themselves in order to reach their potential. We are all a ‘work in progress’, and we invite every member of the school community to work on things they find challenging, to improve themselves, and be their own best advocate. Our school offers a range of workshops to enhance opportunities for parents to extend their understanding how best to support their child, please review some of the powerpoints and recordings from our most recent events here.
Here at Lightwater Village School, we are very proud of the many opportunities that your child will have to enable them to develop as successful learners. We offer an exciting and engaging curriculum across all subjects, including the arts, humanities, and sport. We offer specialist teachers in computing and PE, as well as a wide variety of clubs and extra-curricular activities to help your child develop their skills and passions. We are a Forest School, our dedicated Forest School teacher has developed our offer to ensure that all Infant age pupils access Forest School lessons every week. At the Juniors, our Forest School practitioner supports the team to develop our outdoor learning offer to ensure that all children have outstanding play opportunities throughout their primary school experience.
The exceptional facilities at the school enhance this offer and provide children with opportunities to learn using a dedicated music room, Computing suite, podcasting studio, and food technology room at our Junior site. We have superb outdoor facilities within our school grounds as well as being on the doorstep of the Lightwater Country Park which helps to shape and guide our curriculum, providing numerous opportunities for our children to grow, learn, and flourish.
We will be holding a number of engagement events to allow prospective parents opportunities to visit the school throughout the year. Please see the timetable of events here.
We look forward to welcoming you to Lightwater Village School and meeting you in person.
