VE Day Celebrations at Lightwater Village School
At Lightwater Village School, we came together as a school community to celebrate and commemorate VE Day – a day of reflection, remembrance, and unity.
At 12 o’clock, the whole school paused for a two-minute silence to honour the brave troops who lost their lives during World War II. It was a powerful moment that reminded us all of the importance of remembering the past and the sacrifices made.
Afterwards, we celebrated as we threw our very own VE Day street party! Dressed proudly in red, white, and blue, with the Union Flag flying high, the playground was filled with laughter, colour, and music from the 1940s. The children enjoyed a special lunch served by our wonderful kitchen team and sat and tucked in with their friends and teachers, everyone truly got into the spirit of the day.
We made flags and hats, danced to wartime tunes, and shared lunch together in true community style. It was a joyful and memorable afternoon – a perfect blend of learning, fun, and remembrance.
Thank you to all the staff and pupils who made the day so special. A wonderful way to honour the past and celebrate together.
