Year 2 News
A great start to our last half term in Year 2- how quickly a year has gone! Rehearsals for our leaving assembly our underway and we can’t wait to show everyone. Before that however, we are still doing lots of learning!
In Wider Curriculm we finished our David Attenborough topic by filming mini-documentaries based on a chosen habitat. Their finished backdrops looked amazing and the preparation and speaking in the videos were brilliant. Perhaps we have some budding presenters in our midst! This half term we have been studying Aboriginal Art work including the artist Rosemary Petyarre. This week the children have been designing and making fruit salads!
We have been learning to tell the time in Maths, which is always a tricky concept, especially with the reliance on digital clocks and watches these days! However, they did brilliantly and are learning to tell the time in up to 5 minute intervals (including o’clock, quarter past, half past and quarter to).
So far this half term in English, we have written a ‘rise, fall, rise’ story where their chosen character dreams about what they want to be when they are grown up. The children have written some wonderful stories and should be very proud of their hard work. Our next topic book is ‘How to wash a Woolly Mammoth’ and will be working towards writing a set of instructions.
We were lucky enough to be visited by an education officer from Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. The talk was really informative and the children enjoyed learning about what to do if there was ever a fire.
Well done to the children who took part in the Maypole dance at the Lightwater fete- they did a fabulous, flawless job!
Today, we made fruit Kebabs, it was so much fun and they were so delicious!
