Our Year 2's - Mini David Attenboroughs!
Over this half term, Year 2 will become scientists and experts in all living things by exploring the answer to our wider curriculum question: In what way is the world around us diverse? We have started by investigating how we might know if something is living or not living, studying different life cycles and basically becoming mini-David Attenboroughs! By the end of this project, Year 2 will be creating their own TV programme about an animal of their choice including their life cycle and habitats. We are all very excited!
This week we have immersed ourselves in a new book, The Big Blue Whale by Nicola Davies which has captivated the children’s imagination. It is beautifully written, flooding each page full of facts whilst juxtaposing them with creative descriptions and images. Over the next few weeks, each child will be writing their own double-page spread about an animal of their choice and collating them into our very own class non-fiction book for the school library. This ties in beautifully with our wider curriculum project.
Money, money, money…… is what we are learning about in Maths this week! By using our addition skills of adding tens and ones, the children can identify and add up pounds separately to the pence.
In PE on a Monday, we are practising the game of cricket and on a Wednesday, it is all about athletics, as we hone our track and field skills and get ready for Sports Day.
We look forward to an energetic and creative, albeit quite short, half-term of fresh learning in Year 2.
